Assuming the tsunami is the current 2011 one, currently, we have about 1000 known deaths. The number will be updated as it continues to climb.
On March 11, 2011 there was a magnitude 9.0 earthquake off the coast of Sendai triggering a massive tsunami that hit of eastern coasts of Japan. In was reported that the earthquake created tsunami waves of up to 10 meters (33 ft) that struck Japan, with smaller waves in many other countries, with a significant surge and damage as far away as Chile, on the opposite side of the world from Japan. In Japan, the waves are reported to have traveled up to 10 kilometers (6 miles) inland. Many thousands of people were killed in both the earthquake and resulting tsunami.
The 2011 tsunami reached inland up to 10 kilometers in some areas of Japan. The extent of inland penetration varied based on factors such as topography and elevation.
There is no way of knowing yet. With the aftershocks going on and rubble everywhere, no one can get an exact headcount as of right now. So far, from 15th March 2011, over 10,000 people are dead.
During Japan's earthquake, which is commonly known as the 2011 Tōhoku earthquake and tsunami, a massive 9.0 magnitude earthquake hit the northeastern coast of Japan, triggering a devastating tsunami that reached heights of up to 40 meters. The combined impact caused widespread destruction, with thousands killed or missing, and triggered a nuclear emergency at the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant. The event was one of the most powerful earthquakes ever recorded and had far-reaching consequences for Japan's infrastructure, economy, and society.
Estimated wave height: 10 meters. Earthquake Richter scale: 8.9
there have been 12,000 deaths so far

Nine were killed by the earthquake itself but the tsunami it caused resulted in other deaths as far away as California.
So far 9,000 people have been proclaimed dead, and 14,000 are missing. :(

In March there was an 8.9 magnitude earthquake accompanied by a destructive tsunami which caused a severed nuclear incident. There was a great loss of life and horrendous destruction.

Yes. Tokyo is safe. Unlike what you have been led to believe, no disaster has taken place in fukushima with their nuclear plants. An earthquake and tsunami stuck that region of Japan, killing more than 10.000 people, and make many more homeless. The supposed disaster at fukashima nuclear plant pales in comparison. Many more people were killed in this earthquake + tsunami than those that died from chernobil, but the media keep on screaming murder about this nooclear disaster which somehow has killed zero people thus far.
Far less than were being killed every night at the same time due to the conventional firebombing raids.
