The lymphatic system consists of:

  • Lymph - This is a clear, watery fluid which carries away particles such as bacteria and cell debris from the bloodstream so that they can then be destroyed by lymph nodes.
  • Lymph Vessels - These are lymph capillaries and larger lymph vessels, both of which transport the lymph. The lymph vessels become larger as they join together and end up forming two large ducts called the thoracic duct and the right lyphatic duct which empty lymph into the subclavian veins.
  • Lymph organs and tissues - These include lymph nodes which lymph drains through before returning to the venous circulation and their function is to filter the lymph of things like microbes and damaged tissue cells. The main organ of the lymphatic system is the spleen. The spleen has many functions including destroying old and abnormal red blood cells, storing blood and it helps in immune response to infection.

Does the right lymphatic ducts drains the right side of the head and neck and the right arm into the right subclavian vein?

You have the right lymphatic duct to do the same job for you. This duct opens up in right subclavian vein.

What two kinds of basic structures make up the lymphatic system?

The two basic structures that make up the lymphatic system are lymphatic vessels (including capillaries, vessels, and ducts) and lymphoid organs (such as the spleen, thymus, tonsils, and lymph nodes). The lymphatic vessels transport lymph fluid, which contains white blood cells, while the lymphoid organs help produce and store these immune cells.

What system assists the cardiovascular system by collecting excess tissue fluid?

The lymphatic system removes excess fluid from tissues. The lymph system is a network of organs, lymph nodes, lymph ducts, and lymph vessels that make and move lymph from tissues to the bloodstream. The lymph system is a major part of the body's immune system.

What are the two major structures of the lymphatic system?

The lymphatic system includes organs and cells that filter lymph and blood and destroy foreign microorganisms. Lymph leaks out of capillaries to bathe body cells and circulates among tissue cells and the heart. Organs of the lymphatic system contain lymphatic tissue, Lymphocytes, a few other cell types, and connective tissue.

What tissue forms the lining of ducts in glands?

Simple cuboidal epithelium is a one-cell layer of cuboidal cells (equal sides) that are found in many glands and ducts and forms “tubes” or ducts.

Lymphatic fluid are directly emptied into what?

The lymphatic fluid is usually directly emptied into the lymphatic ducts.

What is the larger and longer of the two lymphatic collecting ducts?

The larger and longer of the two lymphatic collecting ducts is the Thoracic Duct. The other collecting duct is the Right Lymphatic Duct. There are many lymphatic vessels in the body, all of which, like the blood vessels, start as tiny capillaries and gradually get larger as they get nearer to the heart, until they eventually merge into one of the two collecting ducts.

What are the two main ducts of the lymph vessels?

Thoracic and Right Lymphatic

What are the two collecting duct that drain the lymphatic trunks?

Thoracic duct and Right lymphatic duct. The two collecting ducts that drain the lymphatic system are the right and left subclavian veins.Thoracic duct and the right lymphatic duct.

What is the smallest lymphatic vessel?

They are called either lymph ducts or lymph capillaries.

Does the diffusion of respiratory gases take place at the membranes between the alveolar ducts and lymphatic capillaries?

no

Trace the sequence of fluid flow through blood vessel to blood vessel by way of the lymphatic system?

The sequence of fluid flow is blood capillaries.... interstitial space or interstitial fluid..... lymphatic capillaries.... lymphatic vessels.... lymphatic ducts..... junction of the internal jugular and subclavian veins. Then what helps this whole sequence is the skeletal muscle pump and the respiratory pump.

The name of the vessels through which lymph finally rejoins general circulation is called?

The vessels through which lymph finally rejoins the general circulation are called lymphatic ducts or lymphatic vessels. These ducts empty lymph into the bloodstream near the neck.

How do lymphatic vessels originate?

Lymphatic vessels originate as blind-ended capillaries in the tissue spaces. These capillaries merge to form larger vessels that eventually join the lymphatic ducts, which return lymph fluid back to the bloodstream.

What is the function of the lymphatic ducts?

To return fluid back to the blood system and in the process filtering and cleaning it of any foreign substances/pathogens

What is the order of lymphatic vessels smallest to the largest?

lymph capillaries, pre-collectors, collectors, lymph trunks or ducts and anchoring filaments

Where does lymph return to the blood stream?

Lymph vessels carry the lymph fluid back to the circulaiton via the lymph nodes. The short parts of the vessels that connect hte lymph vessels to the ciculaiton are the lymphatic ducts (right lymphatic duct and thoracic duct)
