Here's a bigger question, why do YOU call it marijuana? It's called CANNABIS, that's it's proper name that's been used for as long as the English dictionary used the word for that plant. Marijuana is it's propaganda name, it wasn't called MARIJUANA before the 1930's, it was called CANNABIS Just shows you how much effect that propaganda campaign effected the world. That name is still being used today, by someone like you and the others around you. Marijuana is a Mexican slang term for a wild tobacco. Later adopted by the U.S government to make people think MARIJUANA is different from CANNABIS, thus fooled society successfully.

Cannabis as it is used here refers specifically to cannabis sativa, more commonly known as marijuana. Marijuana contains THC which acts as a neurotransmitter affecting the cannabinoid receptors in the brain. Our brain naturally produces endogenous cannabinoids (endocannabinoids) CB1 and 2-AG which are vital in slowing breathing and heart rate and in general counteract the effects of adrenaline on the body after a fight or flight reaction. A rush of THC from smoking marijuana has the same calming effect, albeit temporary. There is no chemical difference between Marijuana bought illegally through a black market, and marijuana provided by clinics to be used medicinally, however purchasing anything through a black market carries it's own risks. Likewise smoking marijuana carries the same risks as smoking tobacco other types of cannabis. No study has ever shown THC kills brain cells or in any way damages the brain, in fact it simply mimics the effects of neurotransmitters produced by the brain naturally There has been many research done regarding the effects of cannabis most are however unpublished or with held mostly for legal and political reasons. Research has shown that Cannabis can kill brain cancer cells, improve appetite for chemotherapy patients act as a pain reliever and relieve dementia. You can Google "Cannabis Aids", "Cannabis dementia+-Alzheimer", "cannabis brain cancer". Of course much of the results should be taken under much consideration and my answer is no excuse for any one to go ahead and smoke pot.
The amount of THC in cannabis can vary significantly depending on the strain and its potency. On average, marijuana contains about 10-30% THC by weight. Therefore, to find out how much cannabis is needed to obtain 1 mg of pure THC, you would need approximately 3.3 to 10 mg of cannabis, assuming it contains 10-30% THC.
