these are the highest since 1865, and it broke the previous Hastings record of 61mm within 24 hours on August 18, 1952.

According to the web, in answer to your question:

It depends from year to year. This year there was around 10 - 15 inches in the south of England but in Scotland there was at least 40 inches.

The wettest part of the UK is the western highlands, which gets over three meters of rain a year. It rains or snows most days in this part of the Island.
