The only direction you can go from the North Pole is south.

Every direction for 360 degrees is south. You can still go up or down, though.
It is the northern most point on Earth. You cannot go west or east of it, so the only direction is south. At the South Pole, you can only go north. The Earth rotates based on the North Pole and South Pole. There is no east or west pole.
From the south pole there's only one direction available: north. As soon as you take one step from the south pole, you can either continue going north or go east or west; in the last cases you will make very narrow circles.

To travel from the South Pole to any other country in the world (including Australia), you would have to go north.

A person would have to visit the equator for the celestial equator to pass through your zenith or one would have to be at the south pole for the south celestial pole to be at your zenith. You would not see this, but you could note it.
towards the north
go to the south pole and find a pair.
Every step you take from the South Pole is North. Your direction of travel would be slightly Northwest in order to reach McMurdo Station..
