In Mendel's experiments, recessive traits were visible in the F2 generation. After crossing two purebred plants (P generation), the F1 generation exhibited only the dominant traits. However, when the F1 plants were self-pollinated, the F2 generation displayed a 3:1 ratio of dominant to recessive traits, revealing the recessive traits in a subset of the plants.

Not really sure if this is what you're looking for , but I would say energy from the sun, leading to the producers (i.e. plants) then the animals that eat the producers etc etc the energy is given to the plants firstly and then eventually gets passed on through each animal the last animal on the food web has less energy than the pklants as it has been condensed
