Mt. Tambora last erupted in 1815 A.D. producing the largest historical eruption in human history. The eruption killed over 90,000 people, and created a large crater. Smaller eruptions have occurred since, and in 2011, the alert level was raised to 3 (out of four) due to ongoing shallow volcanic tremor. It is likely that Mt. Tambora will erupt again in the near future. This is an active and very dangerous volcano.
