Is Rangitoto active?
It's neither - Mount Nyiragongo is an active volcano because its last eruption has been recently recorded.

Rangitoto Island in New Zealand is estimated to have produced around 2.3 cubic kilometers of lava during its eruption around 600 years ago.
No people are not allowed to live on the island anymore as it is seen as a reserve. People do still have Bach's though which they stay in for a couple of weeks at a time. Once the owner of the Bach passes away though the Bach has to be demolished. It is not allowed to be handed down to anyone or to be sold. Unfortunately this is why there are hardly any Bach's left! (Hope this was helpful to you!)
The volcanic Rangitoto Island is a popular stop for tourists in New Zealand. The most common way to reach Rangitoto Island is via ferry from the city of Aukland.
