It's a super volcano. It's in the middle of one of the plates. People don't realize how intense this volcano because it doesn't have the steep slope, but it's the most dangerous volcano on earth.

What type of volcano is the Yellowstone volcano?

One of only a dozen "super volcanos" in the world. When super volcanos explode it changes life on earth. The last time one went off was Mt. Toba 70,000 years ago.In more technical terms, the Yellowstone volcano is a caldera. Most Caldera volcanoes start out as stratovolcanoes, but this one appears to be an exception.

What are the features of the Yellowstone volcano?

The volcano in Yellowstone National Park is inverted, so instead of exploding into the sky it explodes into the ground (I think). If/when the volcano erupts, there will be a huge ash cloud that will spread across the whole world, blotting out the sun. So if the population of our planet wasn't wiped out by toxic gases in the cloud (I'm not sure if it would be toxic or not, sorry) then all the plants dying from lack of sunlight would get us. And in the movie 2012, they wouldn't all be fine at the end because the ash cloud would have got them. This is very depressing.

What is the most powerful volcano?

yellow stone park in usa has the worlds most powerful super volcano There was another supervolcano at Lake Toba. It erupted 73,000 years ago and wiped the human race to only 100,000. The most powerful volcano(s) in the history of the Earth is the Siberian traps that erupted 250 million years ago. They were far more powerful than any supervolcano. By they are long extinct.

Is Mount Wilshire a real volcano?

Are the super volcanoes likely to erupt?

Not at present. There are many rumors and hoaxes going around saying that the supervolcano at Yellowstone is going to erupt soon. One reason is the common misconception that Yellowstone is "overdue" for an eruption. Many will state that the volcano erupts at regular intervals of 600,000 years and the last eruption was 640,000 years ago. This is only partly true. The volcano, at its present location, has had 3 super eruptions 2.1 million, 1.3 million, and 640,000 year ago. This gives us intervals of 800,000 and 660,000 years. The volcano has also had a number of smaller, though still rather large eruptions similar in size that have occurred at other volcanoes in historic times. Eruptions such as these could be disruptive, but not apocalyptic. Analysis of the magma chamber under Yellowstone suggests that the molten rock has partly solidified and, in its current state, is not capable of producing a major eruption.

Is Ben Nevis a super volcano?

If Ben Nevis was ever a volcano, it has been extinct for thousands of years. You may be mistaken, there is only one super volcano, or calderas, in Scotland and it has been dead since the time of the continental drift 237 Million Years ago. The Super Volcano is in the area which is known as Glencoe. It was the first Super Volcano discovered when Charles Clough first created the theory. There are currently studies happening as to whether there is a Super Volcano underneath the area of Loch Ness.
