Alternating current is a flowing of electricity that changes its polarity (the direction it flows)

regularly. EM occurs from AC when the electricity flows in a coil. Substantial EM radiation can

also result from AC in a straight wire ... the principle of a radio transmitting antenna.

Which type of EM radiation has the shortest wavelength and the most engery?

The shortest wave is a Gamma wave

How do you find energy of an EM wave?

E=hv Where: E is energy h is plank's constant and v is frequency.

What type of volcano results from alternating explosives and nonexplosives eruptions?

A stratovolcano, also known as a composite volcano, results from alternating explosive and nonexplosive eruptions. These volcanoes are typically tall, steep-sided and are composed of layers of lava flows, ash, and volcanic rocks. Stratovolcanoes are known for their explosive eruptions due to the build up of pressure from the alternating eruptions.

Why doesn't electromagnetic radiation run out of energy the further it travels. i.e. why doesn't the speed of electromagnetic radiation slow down the further it travels?

When you rigorously apply Maxwell's Equations to an accelerating charge, you find that an EM wave moves away from this charge. The E-field changes, resulting in a B-field; the B-field changes, resulting in an E-field. This process can be infinitely repeated with no loss of energy, as long as the EM wave travels through a vacuum. Thus, no loss in energy. You also find if you do the above that this wave ALWAYS propagates at the speed of light when in a vacuum -- no exceptions. That's just the way our Universe operates. The EM wave is NOT like a balling rolling on a floor. There is no frictional force on this wave that would cause a loss of energy or a slowing down.

What is the difference between electromagnetic waves and radiation?

No difference at all. Radio waves are one of many types of electromagnetic waves.

HOW are EM wave different from mechanical wave?

Mechanical waves require a medium while Electromagnetic waves does not.

Why isn't sound a part of the em spectrum?

Sound is a mechanical wave, not an electromagnetic wave.

Is a EM wave a sound wave?

No, electromagnetic (EM) waves are different from sound waves. EM waves are vibrations of electric and magnetic fields that do not need a medium to travel through, while sound waves are mechanical vibrations that require a medium, such as air or water, to propagate.

Is sound a type of electromagnetic wave?

No, sound is not a type of electromagnetic wave. Sound is actually a mechanical wave that requires a medium (such as air, water, or solids) to travel through, while electromagnetic waves like light do not require a medium and can travel through a vacuum.

What is the passage of an EM wave through a medium?

when EM waves encounter a material medium, they can interact with it in much the same way that mechanical waves do. A mechanical wave transfer energy in two ways. As it travels, the wave moves potential energy from one place to another.

Is it necessary whenever there is an electric field there will be a magnetic field in perpendicular direction thus producing em waves if not what is the condition of em wave generation?

A moving charge (such as an electrical current) generates a magnetic field at right angles, true, but this field is stable and unchanging. An EM wave is only produced by a changing movement, for example an AC current. The condition would be that the field will change (and produce a wave) only if the current changes.

How em wave are generated from photon?

em wave is generated by photons which emitter the energy in the form of light

Is sound an example of an electromagnetic wave?

No. Sound is a longitudinal wave consisting of mechanical vibrations travelling through matter (solid , liquid, gas, etc). An electromagnetic wave (light) is, classically, a transversely oscillating electric and magnetic field and requires no medium in order to travel.

How is the frequency of an ME wave related to its energy?

The frequency of an electromagnetic (EM) wave is directly proportional to its energy. This means that as the frequency of the EM wave increases, so does its energy. Conversely, a decrease in frequency leads to a decrease in energy of the EM wave.

What kind of EM wave has the lowest energy?

radio wave

What does E in EM wave stand for?

EM waves stand for Electromagnetic waves.

What distinguished electromagnetic waves from mechanical waves?

In a mechanical wave, some material is between stretched or moved from its ground, or normal, state. In an EM wave, a changing electrical field creates a changing magnetic field, which creates a changing E-field; and the process continues until these fields meet something that absorbs them. There is not material that is stretched or moved, the fields just operate on their own. EM waves operate quite well in the absence of any material whatsoever; mechanical waves need some media to propogate in.
