An essential element would be one which would be required by all the plants for completing their life cycle. I have not yet read any article which would put cobalt into this category, however it is considered beneficial element i.e. an element which would be required for the optimum growth of the plant. It is also essential for some of the leguminous species but that also is because of their symbiotic association with the bacteria which require cobalt to fix nitrogen as it possess Vit B12 which contain Co. hope this would help you. I am also looking for its key role in plants if you find any article please do send me a link.
Potassium is essential for plant growth as it plays a vital role in processes such as photosynthesis, nutrient uptake, and water regulation. Hydrogen is not considered an essential nutrient for plant growth, as it is primarily obtained by plants through water (H2O) uptake during photosynthesis.

The portion of regolith that supports plant growth is known as topsoil. Topsoil is composed of organic matter, minerals, and nutrients which are essential for plant growth and development.
Artificial fertilizers provide radilly the essential elments like nitrogen, phosphorus and potash for plant growth.
A plant growth inhibitor is a substance that restricts or slows down the growth and development of plants. It can interfere with processes such as cell division, elongation, or differentiation, leading to stunted growth or even death of the plant. Examples of plant growth inhibitors include chemicals like herbicides or certain hormones.
Nitrates are essential for the growth of amino acids and therefore are essential for the production plant proteins, which help the plant to grow :)
Carbon is the element that is essential in the human diet and for plant growth. Carbon is the basis for life.

essential elements(EE) are those that are required for the completion of the plant life cycle..whereas beneficial elements (BE) are those which promote plant growth but are not necessary for the plant life cycle. EE - there are 3 criteria for the elements to be essential BE - there are no such criteria formulated. EE - eg. Mangenese magnesium calcium boron potassium iron zinc etc. There are 17 EE have been found. BE - eg. Silicon sodium cobalt aluminum and selenium. EE - they are involved in metabolic activities of plant. Production of chlorophyll reproductive and vegetative growth etc. BE - they enhance the resistnce to pathogens drought salinity and nutrient toxicity or deficiency. Enhance plant nutritional value. {ANSWERED BY SHAHEDA }
