Not as they currently are. Obviously I don't want to die, and I certainly don't wan't to sacrifice myself for some group of privileged spoiled jackasses. But the ugly truth is less than one in a thousand people is worth the planetary resources needed to keep them alive. That's not enough. We need a race that is reliably cooperative, creative, loving, forgiving, compassionate, foresighted, and yeah,...thrifty, brave, and even reverent, if that reverence is for life itself, down to the humblest bacteria. Humanity isn't there, not in any reliable sense. That's because we're not deliberately bred pedigreed domesticated animals. We're wild animals with brains, and an assortment of potentially destructive technology. So how do we get there? Animal breeders do it all the time, but there's that problem of who controls the breeding. And the logistics and time of enforced breeding. Bioengineering offers a short cut but you have to make sure the bioengineers are genuinely fanatical about creating a humanity as described above and utterly disinterested in race, religion, or class distinctions. Otherwise you'll end up with an Eloi vs Morlock future.
