Is it a good idea to time travel?

Answer: Now don't you worry yourself over it. Time travel is not possible, so you never

have to get wound up in all those nasty contradictions and conundrums that it

implies.

Answer: Probably time travel will never even be possible. If it is, there are different ideas about the effects; what you see in Science Fiction stories often mixes up different ideas, whatever suits the plot! For example, "Doctor Who" is an excellent series, which I recommend ... but it is not entirely consistent in this sense. The same with "The Girl from Tomorrow"... also a great story, but not entirely consistent. Those are best considered fantasy than solid science. According to some ideas about time travel, it might have some really serious risks. I hope it's not too much of a spoiler if I say that in "The Girl from Tomorrow", the same people who invent time travel eventually decide not to have any more time travel.

So far, there is no evidence that time travel is possible, so this is all very theoretical. The advantages and risks will also depend on what assumptions you make about time travel. For example, if you go back in time and change the past, will you create a new alternate world, while the original world also continues existing? Or is it even possible to change the past?

In science fiction stories you can see all sorts of cases where the past is changed, either for the good, or for the bad. So, you could either correct something bad in the past, or - if you have bad intentions, or simply are unlucky - you could change the past history for the worse.
