Since a practical, working limelight today would require pressurized sources of oxygen and a suitable fuel (acetylene, MAPP gas, or even propane), and would generate disagreeable vapors, is is virtually certain none are in use except as historical curiosities. The science class demos do not use a specially-built device; instead such a demo may be as simple as a lump of lime in forceps heated with a jeweler's oxy-propane welding torch.
