Compound. There are four things, in order of most separate to least:
Elements - Pure atoms. Unique combinations of the most basic blocks of all matter: The subatomic particles. Cannot be separated, only merged with other elements. Can only be broken down into SAPs (subatomic particles).
Mixtures - A combination of elements (usually dry or gaseous) where the elemental atoms intermingle. Can be physically separated, like with a sieve.
Solutions - A combination of elements (usually a fluid or at some point in its creation a fluid) where the an element is dissolved into another. Can be separated by distillation or evaporization.
Compounds - Atoms of different elements have actually bonded and are permanently or semi-permanently stuck together (NaCl). Can only be separated by chemical reaction.
Mixtures are the only one that are heterogenous, not homogenous. Oil and water would be an example of a liquid mixture because they cannot dissolve into on another.
