What is a ozon layer?

It is a layer in the stratosphere (at approximately 20 miles). It contains a concentration of ozone, sufficient to block most ultraviolet radiation from the sun. THats why this layer of atmosphere is called ozonosphere(derived from ozone).. !!

What time of year is the ozone hole the thinnest?

The ozone hole is typically thinnest during late spring and early summer in the Southern Hemisphere (October-December). This is when ozone-depleting chemicals have dissipated and the ozone layer starts to recover.

What is the difference between the function of ozonosphere and stratosphere?

Ozonosphere has concentration of ozone, sufficient to block the ultraviolet radiation from sun. Thats why this layer of atmosphere called ozonosphere. Ionosphere, this layer enables wireless transmission, radio wave transmitted from earth, is reflected back to earth by these ions. The ionosphere is the top most layer of earth atmosphere usually its where the satelites hang around.

How do ozone levels change over 24 hours?

Ozone levels typically change over 24 hours due to variations in sunlight, temperature, and human activities. Ozone levels tend to be higher in the afternoon when sunlight is strongest and lower at night when there is less sunlight and temperature decreases. Human activities such as commuting and industrial processes can also influence ozone levels throughout the day.

What is the layer of the earth that makes up the solid part called?

The layer of the Earth that makes up the solid part is called the lithosphere. It consists of the crust and the upper part of the mantle. This layer is broken into tectonic plates that float on the semi-fluid asthenosphere beneath it.

What is the stratosphere composed of?

The stratosphere is composed mainly of a mixture of gases, with over 99% consisting of nitrogen and oxygen. It also contains trace amounts of other gases such as ozone and water vapor. The stratosphere is known for its relatively stable and dry conditions, as well as its important role in filtering out harmful ultraviolet radiation from the sun.

What has been done to prevent the ozone layer from thinning?

Nothing? Nothing is done only by the Americans who are refusing to sign the Kyoto Protocol. (Correct me if I'm wrong) The simplest and most significant change is to cut off the use of ChloroFluoroCarbons (CFCs) and HydroChloroFluoroCarbons (HCFCs). They are inert and harmless at ground level but are detrimental to ozone molecules at the stratosphere. In fact, it is the Chlorine atom found in the CFCs and HCFCs that destroys the Ozone molecules. CFCs & HCFCs were mainly used in blowing agents, solvents and refrigerants in air-conditioners and refrigerators. They are now replaced by other substances such as HydroFluoroCarbons(HFCs). The HFCs do not contain any chlorine atoms and hence do not harm the ozone layer. Other substitutes are alkanes (such as ethane) and nitrogen gas. Thats what I learnt. Through live searches I found this; Hope it helped, Arshad.
