Yes. Bacterial and microbical life can be found there at any and all times. No plants or animals as we think of them live there, though. It's far too harsh. Just snow, ice, cold and little critters you'd need a microscope to see.

There is, but it's so depleted that it literally doubles your chance of heart attack and stroke due to the lack of oxygen. Your body will release twice as many red blood cells in the blood stream. But you have to prepare your body by pretty much climb to each camp and then back down. Reason being is the higher you go the less percentage of oxygen in the air. So you go up to the next point, get to know and prep your body, then journey back down. Rest, then the next day go back up to that point. and from that point you do it again. When you finally get ready, your expedition leader will find a window of excellent weather and then your there. It's not quite that simple but you get the jist of it.
