Cryptococcal meningitis, caused by the fungus Cryptococcus neoformans, is a common opportunistic infection in AIDS patients. This fungus can cause severe meningitis characterized by headache, fever, and altered mental status. Early detection and treatment are crucial in managing this condition.
An opportunistic infection is a pathogen that only causes disease in a host with a weakened immune system or other underlying condition. These infections take advantage of the weakened state of the host to cause illness.
Examples of opportunistic infections in HIV positive individuals include Pneumocystis jirovecii pneumonia, cytomegalovirus infection, cryptococcal meningitis, and Mycobacterium avium complex infection. These infections take advantage of the weakened immune system and can cause serious illness if not treated promptly. Early detection and proper treatment are crucial for managing opportunistic infections in HIV positive individuals.
A non pathogenic organism cause infection in host when the host's immune system is down.It is called as opportunistic pathogen. That infection is known as opportunistic infection.Example for opportunistic pathogen:Candida albicans, Mycobacterium avium-intracellulare, cytomegalovirus (CMV) ---- Pathogen to HIV positive persons.
Pneumocystis pneumonia: An opportunistic infection commonly seen in individuals with weakened immune systems, including those with HIV/AIDS. Candidiasis: A fungal infection caused by the Candida species, which can affect various areas of the body, such as the mouth, throat, and genitalia. Cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection: A viral infection that can cause severe complications in individuals with compromised immune systems, such as organ transplant recipients or people with HIV/AIDS.

opportunistic infection
HIV infection will bring in the dreaded syndrome called as AIDS. It may take up to eight years to develop the AIDS. If you are on proper therapy, the duration to develop the AIDS is prolonged to many years. In case of AIDS, you immunity is suppressed. You get infections by opportunistic infections.
There are many different opportunistic infections and many different ways to treat them.
Kapose's Sarcoma (KS) is an opportunistic disease that occurs in people with weakened immune systems. HIV (Human Immunodeficiency Virus) weakens the immune system severely enough for patients to develop KS. HIV is not the only cause of weakened immune systems. Other conditions, such as Lupus, may also cause an individual to develop an opportunistic infection.
These infections are called "opportunistic infections." They are called opportunistic because a weakened immune system is necessary for them to cause serious infection.
Opportunistic Infection
Phase III
The ones who might already have an infection or have a low immune level.
An opportunistic infection (OI) is an infection that occurs only when the host's defense systems (ie, the immune system) are weakened. The common characteristic of all agents that cause opportunistic infections is that they rarely affect individuals with healthy immune systems. For example, the disease AIDS (acquired immunodeficiency syndrome) is a classic cause of immune system depression and is associated with many opportunistic infections, including toxoplasmosis, pneumocystis pneumonia (PCP), and others.
HIV-related or AIDS-Related illness. You may also be referring to a term called "Opportunistic Infection."
