Note: the record was a world record, not a U.S. record. The exact number of 72 inches I only know because I was there. On our first ride up the lift, at the top, a ski-patrol, who had just received notice of the measurement, shouted to the people riding up the lift that it was 72 inches. 6 feet exactly.
