Cyanbacteria, or blue-green algae. At least that is the current belief shared by most scientists.

My source: An article in a magazine called "Science Illustrated", Volume 5, Issue 5, entitled "Seeing photosynthesis in a new light". Their main point in the article is that cyanbacteria in it's current form has a more efficient type of chloroplast with better enzymes that they want to engineer into agricultural plants, but the mention of cyanbacteria in an older form as the first organisms to use water splitting photosynthesis is also in there.

Did organisms that require oxygen exist before photosynthetic organisms?

It would be impossible for oxygen requiring organisms to exist before photosynthetic organisms because there was not oxygen in the atmosphere for these organisms to breathe. Photosynthetic organisms take carbon dioxide and water in and create oxygen as waste. Before these photosynthetic organisms existed there was not enough or any oxygen in the atmosphere for organisms requiring oxygen to survive.

When was the first photosynthetic organism formed?

The first photosynthetic organisms, cyanobacteria, are believed to have evolved around 3.5 billion years ago. These ancient bacteria were able to harness sunlight to convert carbon dioxide and water into energy-rich molecules, paving the way for the oxygenation of Earth's atmosphere.

What is the opposite of a saprophyte?

The opposite of a saprophyte is a photosynthetic organism. Unlike saprophytes, photosynthetic organisms produce their own food through photosynthesis using sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide.

What are the main pathways by which energy from the sun enters photosynthetic organisms?

The main pathway by which energy from the sun enters photosynthetic organisms is through sunlight absorption by chlorophyll pigments in chloroplasts. This energy is then used to drive the process of photosynthesis, where carbon dioxide and water are converted into glucose and oxygen.

What is the role of photosynthetic organisms in the oxygen cycle?

Photosynthetic organisms, such as plants, algae, and cyanobacteria, play a crucial role in the oxygen cycle by converting carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen through the process of photosynthesis. During this process, they absorb sunlight and release oxygen as a byproduct, which is essential for the survival of aerobic organisms, including humans. This oxygen is then used in cellular respiration, where it is consumed by living organisms, contributing to the overall balance of oxygen in the atmosphere. Thus, photosynthetic organisms are vital for maintaining the Earth's oxygen levels and supporting life.

What were the first cells to split water?

The first cells to split water were likely early photosynthetic bacteria or archaea, such as cyanobacteria. These organisms evolved the ability to split water through a process called photosynthesis, which allowed them to generate energy from sunlight and produce oxygen as a byproduct.

Why can't photosynthetic organisms grow in the deep water zone?

Photosynthetic organisms need light in order to survive. In very deep water there is no light.

What do photosynthetic organisms require to carry out photosynthesis effectively?

Photosynthetic organisms require sunlight, water, and carbon dioxide to carry out photosynthesis effectively.

What region can photosynthetic organisms not live in?

In order to live, photosynthetic organisms cannot survive without sunlight and water. Therefore a photosynthetic organism cannot survive in any place without water, such as a desert, or without light and air, such as the moon.

Is dinoflagellantes photosynthetic?

Most dinoflagellates are marine plankton though they are also abundant in fresh water habitats. These organisms are known as photosynthetic.

Plants and other photosynthetic organisms such as algae take in from the atmosphere and combine it with water and energy from the sun to form sugar.?

Plants and other photosynthetic organisms such as algae take in ________ from the atmosphere and combine it with water and energy from the sun to form sugar.

What do all photosynthetic organisms have in common?

All photosynthetic organisms have chlorophyll or a similar pigment that captures light energy, allowing them to convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen. They also have specialized structures, such as chloroplasts, where photosynthesis takes place. Additionally, they require sunlight to power the photosynthetic process.

Photosynthetic organisms derive their carbon from?

Photosynthetic organisms derive their carbon from carbon dioxide in the atmosphere during the process of photosynthesis. They utilize sunlight to convert carbon dioxide and water into glucose and oxygen.

What are some nutrients used by photosynthetic organisms?

Photosynthetic organisms basically just use water, carbon dioxide, and sunlight to make their own food, hence the name photosynthetic, photo meaning light and synthetic meaning the forming or building of more complex substances or compounds from elements or simplier compounds.

Why can't photosynthetic organisms grow in the deep-water zone of a lake?

They can't grow their because no sunlight reaches.
