Hurricane Andrew would be considered a density-independent factor because its impact on a population does not change based on the population size or density. It affects all individuals in the same way regardless of the population's size.

The storm surge generated by the hurricane is the primary factor that causes beach erosion during these events. The combination of strong winds and high waves pushing water onshore can lead to significant erosion of the beach's sand and dunes.
The difference between tropical storms and Hurricanes are simply the strength and/or size. Some tropical storms strengthen, and develop into Hurricanes, while some Hurricanes, as they weaken, fall into the area of tropical storms.
Hurricanes take time to develop and they and the systems that can develop into hurricanes are fairly easily identified from weather satellites. Forecast models are run that try to predict how a hurricane will interact with the surrounding weather systems and conditions. Meteorologists use this information to try to figure out what a hurricane is most likely to do.
Hurricane Andrew made landfall in Miami-Dade County in the early morning hours of August 24, 1992. The destruction throughout the entire county was bad, hardest hit however in the state of Florida was the Homestead Area, including Homestead Air Force Base, which was never completely rebuilt. Keep in mind however there were two more powerful landfalls that Andrew made, one in the Bahamas, and one in Louisiana. The destruction of Homestead was so thorough due to the fact that the sturctures there were mostly mobile homes, and were not designed to even withstand winds of a category 3, much less that of a highly organized and compact category 5. The other main reason is that Homestead took the northern eyewall, which gives a counter-clockwise rotation with the storm moving in the same direction as well. This will increase the wind factor to more than any other part of the storm.
He IS IN THE X FACTOR
The strongest and generally most destructive category of hurricane is category 5, though a hurricanes wind-speed based rating is not the only factor in how destructive a hurricane is.

A category 3 hurricane is determined by sustained wind speeds of 111-129 mph (178-208 km/h). These wind speeds can cause significant damage, including well-built framed homes that can sustain major roof and siding damage.
Flooding caused by a hurricane is considered a density-independent factor. The severity and impact of flooding is primarily determined by the characteristics of the hurricane (e.g., wind speed, rainfall intensity) rather than the population density of the affected area.
Air pressure decreases towards the center of a hurricane, reaching its lowest point at the eye of the storm. This decrease in pressure is a key factor in the strong winds and intense storm surge associated with hurricanes.

the weather is a big factor--from freezes, to drought, to too much rain. For example, Hurricane Georges and Tropical Storm Mitch blew through Central America in 1998, causing widespread damage.
