He didn't do inventions as such. He was a theoretical physicist, trying to understand the world using formulae based on observations.

Some of his ideas may have contributed to some technology but most of his work is based on special relativity which does not effect many things you would use in daily life (yet).

I recommend reading "a brief history of time" or the shorter version "a briefer history of time".

Those books explain the type of work he does in a not-too-difficult way and are very interesting.
