Social impacts range from the impacts of life due to the damage to the grief for lost loved ones to the tearing apart of communities. Lives are changed drastically when a bushfire destroys property. Often the families are unable to muster enough money to repair the damage and as thus it changes their entire lives. This can be very stressful and depressing and can sometimes lead to divorces and the like. It is not uncommon for people to die in bushfires and the grief this can cause can lead to major changes in the families' lives as a result. Both of these options lead to the splitting of communities.

Bushfires are actually measured by the number and cost of insurance claims, and the death toll. They are not measured like earthquakes, on the Richter or Modified Mercalli scale, or like cyclones are measured as Category 1-5.

These were caused by a combination of extended extreme temperatures, arson and electrical power pole faults.
Environmental organizations can be categorized into local, national, and international levels. Local organizations focus on community-based efforts, national organizations work on issues at a country-wide scale, and international organizations address global environmental challenges that transcend borders. Each level plays a crucial role in advocating for environmental protection and sustainability.

The "Black Saturday" bushfires in Victoria officially lasted almost 5 weeks - from their beginning on 7 February to 12 March when Victorian authorities announced that the last of the worst bushfires which caused the most death and devastation were under control. However, smaller fires continued, controlled, for many months after that.
