Sickle cell disease is a co-dominant trait where hetero zygotes have some normal and some abnormal cells. These individuals have an enhanced resistance to malaria but their normal cells tend to deform at high altitudes or when extremely dehydrated. Individuals that are homozygous have substantial complications related to circulatory problems, immune deficiencies, joint pain, anemia etc.
