1. One of the many odd facts about Uranus is that it is "laying on its side" as it faces the Sun. Earth faces the sun standing almost straight up, with the north and south poles at the top and bottom. Uranus, however, has its south pole is facing the Sun. Scientists don't know why the planet is like this, but it may be the result of a collision with some other body in space.
2. Also, the planet rotates, or spins, from east to west which is the exact opposite of the way that Earth spins.

Yes. It has the ice and rock boulders on the surface, the low clouds (toxic, methane) hovering over the surface, the rings, and the fact that itself that uranus is tilted on its side. If you have a project that has to do with planning a vacation on uranus, I would suggest mentioning that it is toxic there, so you might want to make up military vehicles that you can look out of with out inhaling the toxic gas.

It is the third largest planet from the Sun, and the fourth largest in our Solar System after Jupiter, Saturn and Neptune. It is the third outermost planet in the System, with only Neptune and Pluto being further away. In size it is approximately 15 times bigger than the Earth, and was the first planet to be discovered via telescope, by astronomer William Herschel in 1781 who at first though that it might be a comet, but later realised it to be a planet by it's movements though the Heavens (it IS visible to the naked eye, but not clearly recognisable as a planet due to it's dimness and slowness of movement). His fellow astronomer Johann Bode suggested that it be named Uranus after the ancient Greek city of Ouranos. Tilted over on it's axis to 98 degrees, it is often described as 'rolling around the Sun on it's side', and rotates on it's own axis in an anticlockwise direction, which is unusual from the way most other planets behave. It's day is shorter than that of Earth, being only a bit over 17 hours long, but it's planetary year is much longer, since because it is so far from the Sun, it takes it much longer to complete a full Solar orbit- a single Uranian year is equivalent to 84 years on Earth! The further out from the Sun a planet is, the longer it's year will be. During some parts of it's orbit, one or other of it's Poles will point directly at the Sun and get about 42 years of direct sunlight exposure, with the rest of the planet in darkness. In composition it is a gas giant, with a surface layer of hydrogen with some helium mixed in, and an inner 'mantle' atmosphere composed of ammonia, wayer, and methane ice crystals which give the planet it's beautiful pale blue colour. It's core consists of rock and ice. It has a total of 27 moons, most of which are named after characters from Shakespeare and Alexander Pope including Titania, Umbriel and Oberon. It also is surrounded by two sets of dark rings, not easily seen except by the world's most most powerful telescopes, and which consist of particles ranging in size from dust-like motes up to small boulders- they are believe to be the ancient remains of other moons that may have been destroyed in collision with each other or by being hit by an asteroid. It can at times be the coldest planet in the Solar System, with temperatures dipping to -224 degrees Celcius. Only one space probe has ever investigated Unranus, Voyager 2 in 1986, when it swept past at an altitude of 81,500km and sent photographs of the planet, it's moons and rings back to Earth.
