Metals are generally grey (ranging from dark to light shades) or silver except for gold and copper

Non-metals mostly form gases (except sulfur, carbon, iodine, boron) that are generally colourless; except for halogens which are coloured:

F = yellow

Cl = yellow-green, green

Br = reddish-brown

I = violet-dark grey

S = yellow

B = black (metalloid)

It is worth noting that some normally gaseous non-metals may take on a colour in liquid form, e.g. oxygen is a pale blue colour in liquid form. Carbons colour depends on its allotrope (graphite is black, diamond is colourless)
