Meteorites are chunks of space rock that fell on earth. They are pieces of rock that can be found on the Earth surface but come from outer space. Asteroids are rocks that travel thru open space, meaning they are pieces of other planets or just boulders flying around in space. If an asteroid (small one) hits earth and is then found by someone then it is an meteorite. A comet is a boulder made of mostly ice that travels thru space at hi speeds and has a defined hyperbola around a star. So Rocks form space on earth are meteorites rocks in space flying around are asteroids and ice traveling realy fast (as a boulder) around a star is a comet.

All meteorites collected on Earth come from asteroids or comets?

Most meteorites come from asteroids, which are rocky bodies orbiting the sun. Some meteorites could also come from comets, which are icy bodies. Both asteroids and comets can collide with Earth, resulting in meteorites.

What do asteroids meteorites and comets have in common?

What two space objects produce meteorites?

Asteroids and comets are the two space objects that produce meteorites when they enter Earth's atmosphere and survive the descent to reach the surface. Asteroids are rocky objects that orbit the Sun, while comets are composed of ice, dust, and rock.

What are differences of comets meteoroid's asteroids?

Comets : mostly ice & are often in very distant elliptical orbits. Meteoroids and asteroids are usually rocky and/or metallic, asteroids are found in the asteroid belt (between Mars & Jupiter).

How do comets meteorites and asteroids differ?

Comets are icy bodies made of dust, rock, and frozen gases that orbit the Sun, meteorites are asteroid fragments that have entered Earth's atmosphere and landed on its surface, and asteroids are rocky bodies that orbit the Sun primarily in the asteroid belt located between Mars and Jupiter.

How are comets asteroids and meteorites different?

Asteroids orbit the Sun between the orbits of the planet Mars and the planet Jupiter. Comets orbit the Sun on very elliptical orbits, originating from the Kuiper belt beyond the orbit of Neptune or the Oort cloud at the edges of the solar system. Comets are also usually (but not always) icy bodies that give of gas and dust (a tail) as they approach and get heated by the Sun. Meteorites are bodies that were Asteroids or Comets that have hit the planet Earth and landed on the surface.
