The benefits of using kerosene is that I has a high energy content, is easily transportable, remains liquid over a large temperature range, is easily storable, and available world wide.

Kerosene is a paraffinic fuel. Kerosene, diesel, heating oil and jet fuel are very similar fuels differing mainly in their level of purification: jet fuel is the most pure, then kerosene, next is diesel and finally is heating oil. It is not as volatile as gasoline. If you are trying to burn it in a gasoline engine that's a problem because it won't burn as well. If you're trying to wash auto parts in it that's a definite advantage because it's less likely to blow up while you're working. I would not, however, recommend smoking cigars while washing parts. Because it is very pure it's more expensive than diesel; if you're just using it for parts cleaner I'd get a gallon of diesel from a service station instead - it will do the same job for less money. If you're using the fuel in a kerosene heater the purity is an advantage; the less crud in your fuel the better your heater will work.
