I'm not sure what that means, but I will give the question a go. Cnidarians are stinging creatures that generally have toxic venoms. These venoms can harm us in a few instances, but their economic importance is in the proteins of their venoms. They can harm us directly by their ability to defeat predators and debilitate prey. But their toxic venoms are simply proteins that interfere with metabolic processes. These venoms can destroy blood cells, prevent or precipitate coagulation, increase or decrease blood pressure, disrupt heart rhythmia, interfere with synaptic signals, and have a plethora of other debilitating effects.

But by analyzing these proteins, we can begin to understand how they interfere with normal processes. And by isolating the proteins responsible for specific consequences, we can economically benefit from medicines that provide anti-coagulation, higher or lower blood pressure, avoid arrhythmias, and prevent either interference or aggravation of synaptic signals.

They may not be a swimmers best friend, but we may be best served by understanding their ability to effect us. Which makes their venoms a treasure.
