Bacon's Rebellion was the first in which disgruntled poor colonists rebelled against the elite land holders. It was also a determining factor in race relations in the country. Prior to the rebellion, there wasn't much differentiation between poor white farmers and black indentured slaves. These two groups joined forces against the elite and were to be reckoned with. After the rebellion, legislation was passed differentiating between whites and blacks, affording more human rights to the prior. This eliminated the existence of a common interest and introduced a class gap based on race.
