Neptune is a gas giant (or ice giant) planet and has no solid surface visible to us. It is believed that beneath the thick atmosphere the surface of Neptune is mainly composed of ices, although there is probably a rocky core beneath these.

We therefore have no way of knowing what the rock types on Neptune actually are but it is believed that the core of Neptune is composed of iron, nickel and silicates, with an interior model giving a mass about 1.2 times that of the Earth.
