In I am legend, the movie, a woman takes the measles virus and mutates it to cure cancer, but what happens is is backfires and turns into a deadly plague killing 88% of the worlds population. The other 12% are immune to both the air borne and terrestrial, then some of them get hungry and feast upon the others leaving only the man and his dog, the dog which is only immune to the air born version. the man dedicates his life to finding a cure then finds it only to be killed moments later.
