What can you tell anout photosynthesis if a leaf begins to produce more gas bubbles?

The increase in the rate of gas production (oxygen) leads to the conclusion, that the rate of photosynthesis is increasing. As the rate of the products being released (the bubbles) increases that signifies that the cycle is speeding up, thus a greater amount of photosynthetic cycles are occurring.

During photosynthesis, surplus oxygen comes out of the leaf through stomata. Each stoma is a microscopic pore (space) between a pair of guard cells.

If you are using a water plant, such as Elodea (Canadian pondweed), you can see the oxygen in the form of bubbles leaving the leaf.

If there are more bubbles leaving the upperside of a leaf than the upper side, there must be more stomata on the underside of the leaf.

You could check a specimen under a microscope to confirm that this is so.
