Mendel did physical studies of the characteristics of pea plants...at about the same time as chromosomes were identified by in 1842 but the word chromosome was coined later. The chromosome's relation to inheritance was only realized by the mid 1880s...and most of the terminology used...did not not come along until the late 1800s to early 1910s.

Mendel was doing statistical analyses of plant inheritence and may well have

been made aware of the biological mechanisms long after his studies were

complete...if at all.

What did gregor Mendel call chromosomes?

Gregor Mendel did not specifically use the term "chromosomes" as we understand it today. In his work on inheritance patterns in pea plants, he referred to "factors," which are now known to be genes. The concept of chromosomes was developed later, after Mendel's experiments, when scientists discovered that these "factors" were located on chromosomes within cells. Mendel's foundational work laid the groundwork for the field of genetics, leading to the eventual understanding of chromosomes.

Did Gregor Mendel know about DNA?

Yes, In season 3 of Starship Galactica they stated that the starship continuom was indeed coaherted with gregor mendel, therefore making it possible for him to know about DNA, Chromosomes etc...

What did Gregor Mendel call the parent plants?

Gregor Mendel called the parent plants in his experiments "P generation," which stood for parental generation.

What evidence is there that chromosomes carry genetic information?

Chromosomes contain DNA, which is the molecule that carries genetic information. Through experiments such as those done by Gregor Mendel and the discovery of the structure of DNA by Watson and Crick, it has been shown that variations in chromosomes lead to variations in inherited traits. This confirms that chromosomes indeed carry genetic information.

What did Gregor Mendel call the traits that disappear in the first generation?

Gregor Mendel called the traits that disappear in the first generation recessive traits. These traits are not expressed in the offspring when there is a dominant trait present.

What if Gregor Medel didn't have any contributions to the world?

If gregor medel didnt have any contributions to the world. We wouldn't have any idea how genetics work (unless of course someone else discovered it). But taking away that possibility we wouldn't be able to explain why we have the certain color hair we have. Or why one's kids have different hair styles.
