The answer is that there was no measurement before about 1630 when a scale was first used. Before this there were what can be called thermoscopes, which used an enclosed column of air to show change in temperature, but these were also sensitive to barometric pressure, and no-one seems to have tried to devise a scale of temperature. When people say there was a warm period in the 1300's or whenever, this can only be deduced from records of what was grown, and tree ring records, and other such records.

Does thermometers have infrared in it?

Some thermometers, known as infrared thermometers or non-contact thermometers, use infrared technology to measure temperature without making physical contact with the object being measured. Traditional thermometers that use mercury or a digital display do not use infrared technology.

What would it be like to live on Mercury?

it would be really hot

Why can't you use mercury thermometers?

Mercury is toxic and poses serious health and environmental risks if the thermometer were to break. Safer alternatives, such as digital thermometers or alcohol-filled thermometers, are now commonly used instead.

Why do OSHA and EPA and the AMA all discourage the use of mercury filled clinical thermometers?

When mercury filled thermometers break, the mercury is released. Mercury is toxic to people, pets and the environment. There is a long history of mercury from broken thermometers and other medical devices being improperly dealt with, or even ignored. Since there are adequate replacements for mercury thermometers, OSHA, EPA, AMA and others discourage the use of mercury thermometers and encourage their replacement with thermometers using other technologies.

When do you use a thermometers?

When you need them.

Are people reliable thermometers?

no

What was used in thermometers in 1600 instead of mercury?

Before the use of mercury, alcohol (usually ethanol or dyed spirits) was commonly used in thermometers. Alcohol thermometers were popular because alcohol has a lower freezing point than mercury, making them suitable for a wider range of temperatures.

What is the difference between alcohol thermometers and digital thermometers?

Alcohol thermometers use a liquid such as ethanol to measure temperature based on the expansion of the liquid, while digital thermometers use electronic sensors to detect temperature changes and provide a numerical reading. Digital thermometers tend to be more accurate and easier to read than alcohol thermometers.

The thermometers doctors use to measure our body is called?

Doctors use body temperature thermometers to measure body temperature.

What laboratory equipment would you use for measuring temperature?

You would use a thermometer to measure temperature in a laboratory setting. There are different types of thermometers available, such as digital thermometers, mercury thermometers, and infrared thermometers, each suitable for different applications.

Why do you flick thermometers before using them?

This is only in the case of of clinical thermometers, which usually have mercury inside them. These thermometers have a constriction just after the bulbthat allows the mercury to flow due to the pressure of expansion and contraction but is thin enough not to allow the mercury back into the bulb, to allow people to read the thermometer without having to hurry. people flick the thermometers to force the mercury back into the bulb so that temperature can be taken again.
