Usually you use a white chalk to the line on the flywheel and the mark on the housing. With a timing lite on the number 1 cyl. you will see the marks where they line up. Adjust with the dist. to what you want, but first un-plug the wire harness at the bottom of the dist. before you can check the timing. The plug will be at the lower end of the dist. just to the right.
