Life on Earth depends on the Sun. We receive solar energy in the form of light and heat; its gravitational pull provides the underpinnings of the solar system and its tidal force is believed to be influential on the origins of life on Earth. Plants rely on incident solar radiation to manufacture the food which enters the food chain for almost all other life. We also convert solar energy to electrical power, either directly or indirectly through harnessing devices which capture solar heat, or wind power caused by temperature differences attributed to the Sun's influence.
