Unlike boxes that give you a small amount of your equus back, you get nothing if you destroy a meadow.
I would suggest not destroying the meadow, and using it to grow crops, or simply laying it fallow so it can go back to 100% (or 50%) fertility. It doesn't hurt to have to many meadows.
