The stamen is the male reproductive organ of a flower.

The organ includes the anther and the filament.

Its function is to produce haploid (n) male gametes, these are then encapsulated into a pollen granule.

The pollen is dispersed and attaches to the stigma of a compatable flower where it germinates, fuses with an ovule which results in the embyryo of a new plant.
