Perennial plants are plants who's life duration spans more than one growing season.

For example most trees and shrubs are perennial as they live for a number of years (seasons), even into the hundreds of years.

By contrast annual plants (also called seasonals) complete their entire life cycle in one season (summer, winter, spring or autumn); and bi-annual plants within two growing seasons.
