Variable means 'can change'. If a science experiment is to produce clear information, we should change only one thing at a time. The condition we change is called the independent variable. For instance we might decide to change the temperature of hot water and see how that affects how long potatoes take to cook in it. Temperature is the independent variable, and cooking time is the dependent variable. If we want to be sure that changing the temperature is the only thing affecting the results, we must ensure nothing else changes from run to run. We must keep the size of the potatoes, their variety, the amount of salt in the water and the cooking vessel the same. These are the controls, or control variables. The controls are the substance or material or measurement in the experiment that stays constant and doesn't change while the variable is the object compared to the control which varies in results and can change through out the course of the experiment.

Is iron and wood is a better thermal conductor to identify independent and dependent variables?

iron is a better thermal conductor but i do not know what you mean by identify independent or dependent variables. in an experiment? i am not sure.

Why would a scientists need to identify and control variables in an experiment?

A scientist would need to identify variables so you could know what to change and what to keep the same. A scientist would need to control variables so you can try to see exactly which factors are affecting the dependent variable (the thing you're measuring). Hope this helped! Because I have the exact same question on my homework!

Identify the variables that you need to control and the variable that you will change?

To conduct a controlled experiment, you need to control all variables except the one you are changing. The variable you change is called the independent variable, and the variable you measure in response is the dependent variable. Control variables are those that could potentially affect the outcome of the experiment but are kept constant to isolate the effect of the independent variable.

Is it easier to control dependent variables than independent variables in a scientific experiment?

It is easier to control independent variables

What is the variable that is difficult to control?

There are many variables that can be difficult to control in various situations. Some common examples include human behavior, external factors like weather, and complex systems where multiple variables interact in unpredictable ways. It is important to identify and account for these variables when making decisions or conducting experiments to minimize their impact on outcomes.

What Confounding variables are there on a questionnaire?

Confounding variables on a questionnaire refer to factors that may influence the relationship between the variables being studied. For example, participant demographics, question wording, or response bias could confound the results. It is important to identify and control for these variables to ensure accurate and reliable data analysis.

What does variables and control mean in a science project?

The variable is the characteristic being changed while the control is left as is to see what would normally happen.
