I think it means that your not aware at the moment, depending on where you are located such as: party, library, lunch room etc. sometimes you get used to talking at that specific volume and you think that's regular, kind of like an illusion. You brain automatically thinks that's a normal volume when to other people your loud, because each and everyone has a different volume they speak at comparing to you.
