how useful something (information, a substance, a tool, anything) is for providing evidence or answers for a theory or question.

eg:

telescopes are of great scientific worth as without them we wouldn't be able to see in great detail what was going on outside our world.

violent, fictional computer games are not of great scientific worth, as they don't provide us with any vital information or proof as to what's going on in the real world.

etc.
