A steep structure refers to a hierarchical organization where there are many levels of authority and a narrow span of control. This results in a clear chain of command, but can also lead to slower decision-making and communication challenges. In contrast to flat structures, steep structures often provide more defined roles and responsibilities. Organizations may adopt a steep structure to maintain control and oversight, especially in complex operations.

Volcanic domes are produced by violent eruptions and typically feature steep slopes. These formations occur when viscous lava accumulates near the vent, resulting in a dome-shaped structure. The eruptions can be explosive due to the buildup of gas pressure, leading to the rapid ejection of volcanic material. The steep slopes are a result of the lava's inability to flow far from the vent before solidifying.

Steep has a couple of definitions. A hill is steep when it has a pronounced incline. Steep also means to soak in liquid to extract flavor or to soften. It will steep there for several minutes to permit the water to extract the flavor from the tea so we may drink it.
