An eclipse is merely a shadow cast across the earth, by the moon getting between us and the sun.

As the earth spins underneath this shadow, the shadow appears to travel across the earth. The shadow is relatively small and only covers a small patch, underneath which will give a total eclipse.

So as the earth spins this will limit the time that any one place, under the path, will have an eclipse.

What role do shadows play in eclipses?

It provides the light seen around the Moon, in a solar eclipse. It provides the light the Earth blocks out, during a lunar eclipse. Light leaks around the Earth, in a lunar eclipse. Since Earth's atmosphere absorbs and scatters blue, the light reaching the Moon is red, almost a brick red when you look at the eclipsed Moon.

How does revolution affect solar eclipses?

Revolution refers to the Earth's orbit around the Sun, which plays a crucial role in determining the timing and visibility of solar eclipses. A solar eclipse occurs when the Moon passes between the Earth and the Sun, casting a shadow on the Earth's surface. The alignment necessary for an eclipse can only happen during specific points in the Moon's orbit, which is influenced by the Earth's revolution around the Sun. Consequently, the positions of the Earth, Moon, and Sun during their respective revolutions determine when and where solar eclipses can occur.

What are 3 similarities between a lunar eclipse and a solar eclipse?

In any eclipse, the Sun, Moon and Earth line up more-or-less exactly. The eclipse is the shadow; a solar eclipse is the shadow of the Moon darkening a part of the Earth, while a lunar eclipse is the shadow of the Earth darkening the Moon.
