What effects might the ozone hole have on humans and other organisims?

The hole only occurs during the end of the winter at each pole (The northern hole is so small it is referred to as the dimple). Both holes are only found at the end of their winters and only because the sun has been gone for extended periods.

It is absolutely true that should you try tanning during the sunless winter months in the Antarctic, you will have less ozone above you. You will also have no sunlight so the increase in radiation is mitigated. You will have other serious exposure issues though, so tanning is still not recommended at either pole during the winter.

The largest hole, btw occurred before man started using CFC's, in 1858.
