Elements are put into groups on The Periodic Table and are similar to other element in that group for example:

Group 1 - Alkali Metals - Li, Na, K, Rb, Cs, Fr - All explosive in water.

Group 2 - Alkaline Earth Metals - Be, Mg, Ca, Sr, Ba, (Ra) - All silvery white metal.

Group 0 - Inert Gases - He, Ne, Ar, Kr, Xe, (Rn) - All highly unreactive.

Elements are also similar to their own group in their electron configuration.

Similarly for periods, every element in that period has the same amount of electron shells. For example, in Period 2 every element has two electron shells.

What is a family how many are there in periodic table?

In chemistry, a family is a group of elements that have similar properties and react in a similar way. There are 18 families in the periodic table, each with their own unique characteristics and trends. These families are commonly referred to as groups and are labeled from 1 to 18 on the periodic table.

What does groups mean in Chemistry?

Is the same thing as a family and a family is a vertical column in the periodic table. Elements in a family all share similar characteristics, whether they be physical or chemical. There are 18 family (or group) columns in the periodic table.

Why was it necessary to make a periodic table?

it is necessary to make a periodic table because it makes it easier to find elements that have similar physical characteristics and to find out the amounts of "shells" an element has of the amount of electrons on the elements vallence.

How is the periodic table organized with similar elements?

The periodic table is organized by increasing atomic number and grouping elements with similar chemical properties in columns called "groups" or "families." Elements within the same group have similar outer electron configurations, which results in similar chemical behavior.
