Elements in the same family, or group, have similar physical and chemical properties.
A family of elements (Or Chemical Family) is used to describe a group of related elements. For example, copper, silver, and gold all belong to the same chemical family. These 3 elements are often referred to as the coinage metals. These elements share several common properties.
Iodine is the element most similar to astatine. Both elements are in the halogen group on the periodic table, sharing similar chemical properties due to their valence electron configuration. Astatine is a rare and highly radioactive element, making it difficult to study in detail.

To find an element that is similar to another element, look in the periodic table and find an element in the same column (group/family) as the element of interest. Usually, elements within the same group/family have very similar properties.
The element Bismuth (Bi) belongs to the Nitrogen family (Group 15). This means it has similar characteristics to other elements in this family. Bismuth is atomic number 83 and the last non-radioactive element.
