Water is the most essential compound for Human body. It is used in variety of ways by our Body.

1- As a medium of transport:

Water is used in body as a transport medium for different molecules, cells and other materials. The plasma which constitutes of nearly 55 % of fluid part of blood contains 90% of water. All this water is used in transport of various materials like Blood Cells, Hormones etc throughout the human body. Water is also essential in intra and inter cellular transport.

2- As a solvent:

The water is a universal solvent which is used in body to dissolve many compounds such as sodium chloride and other salts. It can also dissolve urea and other nitrogenous compounds like uric acid which essential for the excetion of these compounds.

3-As a metabolite:

Water in the body is also used as a metabolite and is used in many reactions. Also the reactivity of many compounds increases when they are dissolved in water. Water is used in hydrolysis in which H+ and OH- Ions of water react with different materials to make other products.

4-Mobility of Spermatozoa:

Spermatozoa can only move by ther flagella in water. If they are deprived of water they can not move at all and ultimatley the process of fertilization can not be achieved.

5-As a Coolant:

Water is also used as a coolant in body and helps to regulate the body temprature in extremely hot conditions. When we sweat the water from the skin evaporates and produces a cooling effect.

7-As a lubricant:

Water is used as a lubricant in Human body during digestion. The water present in Saliva lubricates the food and makes the passage to Lower digestive tract easy. In addition to this water around our different body parts such as eyeballs, Muscles and joints ensures that they keep a friction-less movement.
