The name south, west etc tells us the direction the wind comes from. So a south wind comes from the south and blows toward the north. However, at the South Pole it is not possible to have a south wind because all directions from that point are north. Therefore the answer is false.
Being from St. Louis myself and studyin the weather the past 10 years or so I can tell you that there isn't really a predominent wind direction for us. We get mostly south winds during the summer we get north winds during the winter and it blows from the west and sometimes from the east so there is no really predominent wind direction for us.
Weather patterns in the US generally move from west to east due to the prevailing westerly winds. However, weather systems can also move from north to south or south to north depending on the region and season. Local geography and topography can also influence wind directions in specific areas.
Prevailing winds in the US are from the west. Of course, atmospheric pressure can push winds in many different directions.
In the United States, the prevailing winds are westerlies, which blow from west to east in the mid-latitudes. These winds are responsible for the general movement of weather systems across the country.

The winds can blow from all round the compass. In Britain, an easterly wind comes to us from the continent and. in winter, is often very cold.

I live in Missouri and the wind here causes some interesting weather conditions. There doesn't seem to be any one wind direction here. However every now and then we get really powerful winds that can last up to 24 hours. Depending on the direction of the wind will severely alter the weather here and give us unusual weather. When strong winds blow from the north for a day we could have cold weather even in March it could drop below freezing temperature. When the wind blows from the south it could make temperatures up to 60 degrees in the winter months. But to answer your question it is hard to say which direction the wind blows in central America.

The US DOES use wind energy- but it is not free. Wind generators cost money to build and to maintain. The wind does not always blow, and winds may blow in an area that does not need electricity. there is a cost to moving electricity from one area to another.
